Ireland – Irish National Team

Cáirde Rás Tailteann are delighted to welcome the Irish National Team that will compete in this year’s Rás Tailteann.

Rás Tailteann will see Irish U23 riders get an opportunity to showcase their talent under the guidance of U23 Programme Lead and DS, Martyn Irvine. The team will be made up of Aaron Wade, Patrick O’Loughlin, Odhran Doogan, Ewan Warren and Dillon Corkery, who takes on the road captaincy.

Team DS Martyn Irvine commented “Rás Tailteann provides an excellent development opportunity for the riders chosen. Our primary goal is to use the 5-day stage race as a learning experience, and I am looking forward to seeing what the team can do against a competitive field.”

In a similar fashion to previous editions, The Irish National Team will undoubtedly be animating the race again in 2023. Aaron Wade is coming off some good form after winning the points classification in the Circuito Guadiana race held in Portugal in February. Odhran Doogan is also no stranger to An Rás Tailteann after picking up two top-5 finishes in 2022. Ewan Warren also finished 2nd in Rás Mumhan in April and will be one to watch for the general classification victory. The team are sure to get plenty of support as they race on home roads wearing the Irish jersey.

England – Wheelbase Cabtech Castelli

Wheelbase Cabtech Castelli is one of the longest standing British Elite road teams. The team strives to help young riders develop within cycling and to pick up some top results along the way. Over the last 5 years, the team has had 5 riders step up to UCI teams such as Finn Crocket who finished 3rd at the Commonwealth games. The team has proven itself competitive at national level, and has already enjoyed success in 2023. Tom Martin and Jacob Smith have both enjoyed wins this season and will surely be riders to watch during An Rás Tailteann.

Gerard Campbell 2023 Race Director noted “We are excited to welcome this team in 2023. We’re expecting exciting things and look forward to watching how the Rás unfolds for them over the 5 days”.

England – Team PB Performance

Team PB Performance, based in the East Midlands is a British Cycling Elite Development Team. The team prides itself on the ethical development and education of young athletes; particularly those in the U23 category. The team’s development pathway is rider-centered and facilitated through the creation of opportunities for athletes to achieve their goals and progress further.

2023 will mark Team PB Performance’s first participation in the Rás. The team will feature three well-known Irish riders – Gareth O’Neill who competed in An Rás in 2022, George Peden who finished 2nd in the National TT Championships in 2022 and John Buller, the reigning National Criterium Champion.

Cáirde Rás Tailteann look forward to welcoming this team in 2023!

The Route

The 68th edition of the race will take place between May 17th-21st and will travel clockwise around Ireland with stage finishes in Birr, Ennis, Castlebar and Monaghan before starting the final stage to a finishing circuit in the seaside town of Blackrock, Co.
