Kit Gilham And his Manager Chris Truett |
Last week in Ireland, Team Kinesis UK tackled the 8 day FBD Insurance Ras, a UCI 2.2 event on the European calendar. It was the team’s biggest race to date and we went into it, management and riders, hoping that after an extremely successful spring campaign with top results in the British Cycling Premier Calendar Series would translate well as they crossed the Irish Sea for this grueling test. Goals were modest, with aims to do well in the Under 23 classification and target certain stages.
The pinnacle of the week however was Kit Gilham winning the mountains Jersey. Kit’s performance, after many great rides in British Premier Calendar races without a suitable reward, surpassed the initial goals for the week. After being part of a four-man breakaway on stage 5, he forged a clear lead in the competition. This was cemented on stage 7 with an outstanding performance that was capped by a 2nd place finish on the stage. Shattering the leading break over the two savage first category climbs towards the end of the 110 miles stage, Kit displayed his climbing prowess for everyone to see.

Team Talk Before The Stage |
In the Under 23 competition, all four Espoir riders finished in the top 20 places with Matt Cronshaw top placed in 7th. Commendable stage results include an 11th placed finish on stage 4 by Kit and a 13th place by Josh James on stage 1. On the whole, the team is extremely pleased with how everything came together and it was certainly an unforgettable week. The team would like to extend its thanks to the organizers of the race for what was a truly top-notch event, as well as all the team staff who worked so very hard to ensure everything was in order. The team now looks forward to the Tour of Serbia - also a UCI 2.2 race - running from the 16th to the 22nd of June.
