SPIRIT TBW STUART HALL CYCLING – UK

Cairde Rás Tailteann is delighted to announce our twelfth visiting team for the 2024 event: Spirit TWB Stuart Hall Cycling, who return to the event for the third consecutive year.

Spirit TBW Stuart Hall Cycling is the oldest elite team still in existence in the UK. Last year, then racing as ‘Embark Spirit BSS’, the team finished 4th on general classification after missing out on the critical split on the last day.

Speaking ahead of the 2024 event, Russell Rowles (Founder and Team Principal of Spirit TBW Stuart Hall Cycling) said, “We come into this year’s race with high hopes of improving on the results of previous years. Our squad for 2024 is much smaller than previous seasons and consists of quality rather than quantity, with an emphasis on U23 rider development coupled with a tough European race calendar”.

When asked about preparations for the event, Mr Rowles said “We will prepare in the usual ‘Spirit’ way by gaining a great team bond and ethic whilst racing aggressively and to plan leading up to the start of the event. We will race to win and roll the dice once the flag drops on ‘The Rás’. If successful, we will rejoice; if we fail, we will dust ourselves down and try again the following day”. Mr Rowles is joined by Team Manager, Josh Parkin who added “One thing we will definitely enjoy is the hospitality and the warmth of the Irish people and the cycling scene in Ireland. We look forward to saying hello and having good craic with people we now consider friends. Our team for Rás Tailteann 2024 has two riders going for GC in a two-pronged attack, and the other three will be in full support of the GC men. ‘Spirit’ have a marquee signing in Will Perrett. Will has performed at international level in his speciality track event, the gruelling points race, over the last few seasons. He also competes in the Champions Track League and rides for GB in European and World Events. He won Gold in Hong Kong earlier this season, so don’t be surprised to see Will appearing at the sharp end of each stage when the going gets tough.”

Race Director Ger Campbell said, “We are so happy to have Spirit return to the event again this year. Russell and Josh have been eager to come to ‘The Rás’ since its return was first mooted in 2019. Unfortunately, it was delayed until 2022, but they brought a big squad and an even bigger personality when they arrived. They are certainly a team to watch for results but also for having the craic!”

The interest from across the world has been overwhelming, and we were delighted to see further growth in the North American Continent. They have performed extremely well in some of the world’s hardest UCI 2.2 events, and they will certainly be a squad likely to take results in the 2024 event”.

Team Manager, Juan José Monsivais, said he couldn’t wait to “see what the Irish roads and mountains have to offer” and hopes one of his team will be standing on the top step of the podium in Bective on May 26th.
