Past race animator Morten Hegreberg will lead a very strong Norway Sparebanken Vest team in this year’s FBD Insurance Rás, which gets underway in just over five weeks time in Navan.

The 30 year old has an excellent history in the race, having won stages in 2005 and 2006 and also finishing third overall on both occasions. He was the points winner two years ago, and in 2005 finished level on points to Malcolm Elliott. However he was ultimately placed second on countback in that classification.

The Norway Sparebanken Vest squad has itself impressed collectively, winning the teams classification in 2006 and taking second place one year earlier. That group strength and tactical ability marks it out as a certainty to play a big part in shaping this year’s race.

Hegreberg will be joined by another past FBD Insurance Rás competitor, 25 year old Stian Remme. Last season he won a stage plus the general classification in the Greenland GP, and has twice been part of the winning trio in the Norwegian team time trial championship.

Hĺvard Nybř is also 25 years of age and in 2004 won the Norwegian national under 23 road race championships. He’s taken stage victories in the Tour of Ličge, the Ringerike GP and the Fana Sykkelfestival, showing him as one to watch.

The team will be completed by two young riders. Twenty year old Anders Lund was a winner in the 2006 junior Norwegian team time trial championship, while Sondre Sřrtveit is a year younger and was also on that victorious squad.

Norway now joins already-declared teams from France, Bulgaria, Germany and Iran in the line-up which will also include the Irish national team, at least eleven county teams and pro teams from Britain and Ireland.

The 2008 FBD Insurance Rás will begin on May 18th and features stage end finishes in Ballinamore, Claremorris, Lisdoonvarna, Tralee, Skibbereen, Clonmel, and Roundwood. The final day of racing will take place on Sunday 25th May and runs from Newbridge to Skerries.
